Israel is located in Western Asia, bordered by Lebanon and Syria to the north, Jordan to the east and Egypt to the southwest. It is on the southeastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea and has a coastline on the Red Sea in the south. The land of Israel was known as the "Promised Land" in history and enjoys rich religious, historical and cultural heritage. Science and technology has been the fundamentals of Israel since the establishment of the country in 1948, and after 72 yeas’ development, Israel has been internationally acclaimed for its extraordinary achievements in industry, agriculture and technology. As of the end of 2019, Israel's total population was 9.15 million, with a GDP per capital of 44,000 USD. Tertiary education attainment rate of Israel reaches 50%, ranking among the highest of OECD countries. Research and development expenditure accounts for more than 4% of GDP, ranking 10th in the world according to the statistics of World Intellectual Property Organization. Israel is known to the world as a leading country in information and communication, computers, high-end equipment, semiconductors, materials, environmental protection, renewable energy, bio medicine, medical equipment, and military industries.
The friendship between Chinese and Israeli people has a long history, and we share common values of advocating virtues, admiring excellence, valuing education, and keeping making progress. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in January 1992, cooperation between our two countries enters a rapid development track in various fields. In recent years, with the vigorous promotion of the governments of the two countries and the joint efforts of the business community, bilateral economic and trade relations have continued to develop, and positive results have been achieved in many areas such as trade, investment, project contracting, and labor service cooperation. China-Israel economic and trade relations present a comprehensive, multilevel, wide-ranging, and high-level development trend. In 2017, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu jointly announced the establishment of an "China-Israel Innovative Comprehensive Partnership" , opening a new chapter in China-Israel relations. As of the end of 2019, the bilateral trade volume reached 14.7 billion USD, Chinese investment stock in Israel was nearly 6.5 billion USD, and the total contracted value of engineering projects implemented by Chinese companies exceeded 5 billion USD.
